What do plants need to live? The needs of a plant.

Plants are LIVING THINGS. They are born, they grow, they reproduce and they die. Plants need water. sunlight, mineral and air.
Listen to this song if you want to remember this lesson ;)

Parts of a plant.

Hi second graders!!
We've been studying the different parts of a plant. Look at the picture:

Each part has its function. Let's see:

1. ROOTS: They are under the ground and absorb water and mineral from the soil.
2. STEM: It has branches and the branches have leaves. The stem carries water and mineral from the roots to the leaves.

3. LEAVES: The leaves make food for the plant.

4. FLOWERS: They are the reproductive part of the plant. Seeds form inside the flower. Fruits form inside the seed.

Go away big green monster

GO AWAY BIG GREEN MONSTER

TOUCHING BOX:

We touch things with our hands. The touching box is full of teddies, stones, coins, sponges etc...

SMELL BOX:

We use our nose to smell things. In our box you will find perfume, candels, cinnamon, ginger etc..

TASTE BOX:

Lemons, oranges, sweets, popcorn...they all have different flavours: sour, sweet, savoury....
We tasted popcorn: They were sooo savoury.
We tasted lemmon: it was soooo sour.
We tasted sweets and candies. They were so sweet and yummy.

SIGHT BOX:

We use our eyes to see: we can see colours but we can't see sounds.

HEARING BOX:

We hear with our ears sounds that can be quiet or loud. In our hearing box there are many instruments.

My five senses games and song.

Juego online: five senses.

My five senses

SMELL:

We use our nose to smell things. Things can smell good or bad.

Roses smell GOOD.

Rubbish smell BAD.

TASTE:

We use the mouth and tongue to taste different flavours. These flavours are: sweet, sour and savoury.

Lemmons taste SOUR.

Candies taste SWEET.

Popcorn taste SAVOURY.

HEARING:

We use our little ears to hear sounds. Sounds can be loud or quiet.

Drums sound LOUD.

A piano sounds QUIET.

SIGHT:

We use our eyes to see the world around us. We can see colours or read books.

The rainbow has different colours.

TOUCH:

We touch things with our hands and even with our skin. Things can be hard, soft, rough and smooth.

A coin is HARD.
A teddy bear is SOFT.

A cat hair is SMOOTH.

A scourer is ROUGH.

Harvest Festival

What does Harvest Festival mean?
- What is a Harvest Festival?
Harvest Festival is a celebration of the food grown on the land.

Harvest Festival in The USA is in November. People have a big dinner.

Harvest Festival in Ireland is in August. Farmers bring their harvest to trade or sell. They mostly sell potatoes.

Harvest Festival in Canada is in October. They celebrate this party with a vegetable contest.

Harvest Festival in Britain is in September. Children bring food baskets to school for people from the community.

Welcome, everybody
Welcome, time to party
Welcome, everybody
Welcome, to the autumn harvest

Seasons come seasons go
Yeah we like it

Autumn winds start to blow
Yeah we like it
When them leaves start to fall,
Change in colours and all
See them dance through the breeze
Catch them if you please…

Hey, hey, hey, hey,
Welcome, everybody…

Autumn skies they will glow
Yeah we like it
So many colours on show
Yeah we like it
As we see the squirrels run,
Hiding acorns having fun
Children coming out to play…
With conkers every day

Hey, hey, hey, hey,
Welcome, everybody…
Bring a marrow and come
Hey!
Bring some apples and come
Hey
Bring the nuts and come
Hey!
Bring all the crops and come, come, come
Hey!
Bring a pumpkin and come
Hey!
Bring some berries and come
Hey!
Bring de conkers and come
Hey!
Bring all the crops and bring all the crops and
When we see the haverts moon
Yeah we like it
All the crops will come soon
Yeah we like it
See them birds flying high
Heading south through the sky
As they fly to migrate
Hedgehogs hibernate

Hey, hey, hey, hey,
Welcome, everybody…
